What a whirlwind of a month February was. With James having to be taken into hospital on two separate occasions with Febrile Seizures (which you can read here), Harry's notorious meltdowns as he started to regress his new schedule. Sleepless nights and 4 o'clock wake up calls. The joys of being an Autism parent!

Its safe to say I'm not sorry to see the back of February.

Although it did have one thing happen that I will remember from February and that is starting up my own business. Starting up my own business is something I have always wanted to do and after a lot oh should I or shouldn't I, what will it be and can I work this around my family and our already hectic schedule? I decided to take the plunge and as good old Nike says 'just do it' and I couldn't be more happier.

There are so many exciting things I plan to do in March and in 2016 as a whole. I look forward to every single second of this journey and am so glad that I am able to do it and still be a stay at home mum to my two beautiful boys, as they are only this small once and every day counts.

The days, months and years fly by in a blink so just enjoy the moment while you can.

Here's to a happier, less stressful March!

Being a mum can be the most reward and most challenging job n the world. There are days when you feel like pulling your hair out and in a split second that little monster who put a roll of toilet roll down the toilet for the third time that day, turns around and tells you they love you and it was all but a distant memory... until the next time that is!

That being said its important for us mums to make time for ourselves. Too switch off, if even just for 10 minutes, to re charge our batteries and clear our heads so we can be the best possible parent to our children as we can be. So here is a list of my top 5 things to do to de-stress and unwind.

Gym
Not really the first thing that springs to mind for all those sleep deprived mamas out there, but going to the gym is one of the things that I love to do if I have been having particularly hard ay with the kids. Going to a Pilates session or even just a 20 minute walk in the fresh air can clear your head and even give you that extra bit of energy to deal with the challenges that may face you when you get back!

Catch up on other blogs
I love nothing more than sitting down in a nice quite room with a cuppa tea and a biscuit and catching up on some blogs. Having two children under 4 can be very demanding, especially when my eldest has autism, which means my free time can be very limited and even non existent on some days. So its nice to take a few minutes to sit down relax and have a nice 'warm' cup of tea and just catch up with what's going on with some of my favourite bloggers and also a bit of online shopping (shh don't tell Mr B!).

Get a facial/nails done
There is nothing that makes me feel better than a fresh set of painted nails. Some times when Harry is at playgroup I will ask my nanny to take James for an hour and go and have an hour to myself to get my nails done or have a facial. I feel like a new woman after I get this done and it really helps clear my head and put me in a better frame of mind to deal with the challenges of every day life.

Date Night
Often I be so caught up in looking after the children and attending to their needs my husband always gets pushed to the back of the queue when it comes to my attention so when possible I love to have a date night with him and just unwind and enjoy some time as a coupe. Whether that be going to the cinema, out for something to eat or even something as simple as going for a cup of coffee and a stroll around the town.

Have a Bath
Does anyone else just completely switch off when having a bath? (That is if you can avoid multiple kids trying to join you or sitting on a rubber duck!) Its so nice, especially after a challenging day, to run a nice warm bath, light a few candles, pop some relaxing music on and just chill out to your fingers and toes go all wrinkly.

So there you have it my top 5 things to do to de-stress and unwind! What do you enjoy doing when you feel like switching off or have a spare couple of child free hours??

Monday 1st February @ 8:30 ish pm, was like most nights. We had our tea as a family, I got the boys into their pyjamas while Mr B done the dishes and James kissed his brother and said good night like he would most nights. As we live in a 'granny flat' attached to my in-laws house Mr B took James up to see his nanny while I done some ironing down in the bedroom (okay so I quickly blasted them with the steamer and hung them up, biggest time saver ever!!). James had a dirty nappy so they came back down to the house and got changed...

Then it happened.

The shouts for help.

All I can remember was hearing 'Laura its James come quick, come quick' at first I thought that James had an explosive nappy that needed extra assistance but when he shouted again I knew something was wrong. I could hear the fear in my husbands voice as he shouted for me to hurry. I ran as quick as I could down to the living room, where James was getting changed, and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. My precious little boy who I was laughing and playing with, who kissed his brother goodnight and happily waving bye bye to him, was having a seizure. His eyes were glazed and he was shaking uncontrollably. I shouted to my husband to ring for an ambulance and ran up to my mother in laws house for help and to see if anything had happened to him while he was up there. While there he continued shaking and started foaming up at the mouth and going blue. I had no idea what was happening. I thought he was dying. Mr B was on the phone to the ambulance service and they told us to put him in the recovery position. All the while my precious boy was still shaking. I was shaking. Then all of a sudden he just stopped, his eyes still glazed and rolled in the back of his head. I immediately checked his pulse as I thought he was dying on me. I have never experienced anything like this before in my life. He was lying on the kitchen floor motionless and floppy. I felt so helpless. It felt like it took the paramedics forever to come but it was only 10-15 minutes. I can safely say they were the longest minutes of my life. The paramedic took a heart trace and done all his obs, he told us that he thinks he has had a febrile seizure and that he would call an ambulance to get him checked out in hospital. Thankfully while we were in the ambulance James started to come round and the first thing he done was call out for his brother Harry, which immediately made my heart go from being torn into a thousand pieces to being completely melted. At the hospital the doctors wanted to keep him in over night for observation and take bloods the next morning. I didn't sleep much all night worrying about him and praying that everything would be ok. The nurses checked him over night and his temperature had started creeping up and spiking to 39 degrees so they gave him paracetamol and nurofen to help make him a bit more comfortable and bring the temperature down. In the morning he had his blood work done and the results all came back clear. However the Dr wanted to send him for an EEG to check his brain waves as when the seizure happened there was no real signs of him being unwell or having a high temperature so he wasn't confident in saying it was a febrile seizure and wanted to check for signs of epilepsy. That meant another nights stay in the hospital and more worry for a sleep deprived mummy. All night and into the next morning his temperature was still spiking so he was stripped of his closes and was left to rock around the ward in his nappy! He seemed happy enough by this showing off his nappy to everyone, pointing to the characters! That afternoon he went for his EEG and thankfully everything was clear. Due to his high temperatures following the seizure the doctors and specialists from another hospital felt confident enough that it was a febrile seizure which was caused by an underlying illness. They also assured me that febrile seizures are very common in young children, especially between 6months - 5 years.

Never in my life do I want to witness any of my children having a seizure again. The helplessness that you feel will never compare to anything that you have ever experienced before. I would highly recommend reading up on febrile seizures and what to do if, god forbid, it ever happens one of your little ones. I have attached a link from the NHS website that has loads of information about what it is and what you can do if it should happen and how to prevent it from happening.

Has this ever happened any of your children? Did they ever have it again? I would love to hear your experiences in the comments bellow.
A few weeks back the lovely Kristen from Heavenly Tasty Organics kindly got in contact with me to see is the boys would like to try out some of their organic snacks. I was delighted that the local business, who are based in Augher, Co. Tyrone, got in touch and couldn't wait to try out their products with the boys. James especially prefers to snack throughout the day rather to sitting down for one big meal, so I was looking forward to trying something new and something that was healthy with no added nasties!

When I received our box of delicious goodies the first thing I noticed was their gorgeous packaging. It was vibrant, clear and informative. Very eye catching. Within the box we where very generously sent two flavours of each of their Happy Halo Bites, Yummy Wafer Wisps and Coconut smoothies.

Happy Halo Bites

Both my boys love eating dry cereal and will often sit down with a bowl of cheerios and munch on them while watching TV or a favourite film, so I was excited to see if they also liked the Halo Bites as they would be the perfect healthy alternative...They loved them! The halo bites come in two flavours which are apple and banana and they are the perfect size for your little ones to pick up in their little hands. They are suitable for babies from 10 months old and contain<span style="background-color: white; color: #0a6689; font-family: "georgia" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 22.4px; text-align: center;"> 'ancient organic grains buckwheat and amaranth, blended with natural organic fruits, with nothing added, not even sugar or salt.' A great feature that comes with the Happy Halo Bites is resealable packaging, which will keep them fresh and stop them for spilling over your cupboards or bag.

Yummy Wafer Wisps

These yummy Wafer Wisps come in two unique flavours, Spinach, Apple & Kale and Pumpkin & Banana. Each box contains 6 packets and each packet has 3 wafers inside. These are also perfect for little hands and surprisingly relatively mess free as they just seem to melt in the mouth and don't get sticky. They would be the perfect finger food from 6 months as there isn't much risk of your child chocking as they literally just dissolve, but yet are still packed full of goodness. Perfect! I think these are a must for all changing bags because they are so handy to have as an on the go snack instead of running to the shop for a packet of crisps or chocolate bar when your child is getting peckish.
Coconut Squishes

I left the best to the last. These coconut squishes are amazing! They are packed full of goodness and only the best organic ingredients. They also come in two flavours, Mango, Apple & Banana and Strawberry, Apple & Banana. James absolutely loved these and even demanded more once he had finished his first one he loved them that much. They are the perfect size for him and he is able to 'suck' the contents of the coconut smoothie out by him self, which is great for days when he is ready for a snack and I'm busy with Harry or if we are out doing errands.
So 2016 has arrived and I have decided to make the most out of this year and live it to the full. With that in mind I have written up a bucket list of 20 things that I want to achieve with the kids this year.

1. Take a trip to the zoo
2. Take a trip away on a plane/boat
3. Go on a holiday
4. Spend time at the seaside
5. Go to a water park
6. Go for a drive in a tractor
7. Feed the ducks
8. Ride a pony
9. Milk a cow
10. Go to 5 different National parks
11. Bake a cake
12. Draw chalk pictures outside on the pavement
13. Make a den
14. Go for a picnic
15. Have a Disney movie marathon
16. Visit a petting farm
17. Water balloon fight
18. Plant flowers
19. Make snow angles
20. Have a campfire

By the end of the year we will have every one of these completed! I'm determined to make it happen and of course I will capture all the memories and share with you!

Have you anything that you would like to tick of the list with the kids this year? Be on the look out for my 'Adult' bucket list coming soon!!

love,

Hi everyone hope you are all having a happy hump day! Only two more days to go until you can relax for the weekend. With the weekend in mind I decided to give a review on the Liz Earle Strengthening Nail Colour which would be a great addition to your weekend attire.

Liz Earle launched their signature blue shade for their 20th Anniversary, which I got for Christmas, and what can I say only I love it. I have a love hate relationship with nail polish. Maybe for the reason that I'm a busy mum and I don't have time to wait to let the polish dry fully and in a matter of hours they are chipped and ready to come off again. But not with the Liz Earle polishes. I was pleasantly surprised to get full nail colour coverage with only one coat, great for when I'm in a rush, and also quick drying which is exactly what I hope for in nail polishes, as like I said I don't always have time to wait for the polish to dry between coats. I always like to apply two coats of polish for extra durability and strength but you could definitely get away with just one coat of the strengthening nail colour.

The strengthening polish is enriched with avocado and borage oils to help aid strengthening during wear, which is exactly what my brittle nails need at the moment during these cold winter months. The easy applied colour glides on to leave a glossy sheen finish and its chip resistant formula lasts up to 12 days.

Overall I am very happy with the Liz Earle Strengthening Nail Colour in the shade Signature Blue and will definitely be purchasing more in the near future.
Hi everyone hope you all had a lovely weekend and enjoying the start of your week. Today I want to share with you my top 5 attractions to visit with the kids in Northern Ireland. I love reading posts like these for different activities and ideas so thought I would share some of my families favourites with you all. In no particular order:

1.W5 - W5 is Ireland's award winning science and discovery centre based at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast. It has over 250 exhibits and will suit families of all ages. We love to go here every now and again as it's a great day out with loads of things to keep the little ones entertained. There is an area specifically designed for under 8s which my boys absolutely love. It has a shop, play house, train tracks, water activities and much more.

2. Lagan Valley Leisure Complex - The newly refurbished swimming complex is fantastic. Both our boys love the swimming pool and the specially designed kids area, 'Aqualand' is perfect for keeping them entertained with various slides, swings, see saws and waterfalls. The Lazy River is also great with different currents pushing you around. Be careful to look out for some of those waterfalls over head tho!

3. Streamvale Open Farm - For all the farm lovers out there Sreamvale Open Farm is where you need to be. We where here over the summer when the farm re opened after getting a face lift and what can I say, we where definitely not disappointed. It was one of the best farms we have been to. There was so much for the kids to do including barrel rides, horse rides, tractor rides, pedal tractors, animal feeding, cuddle area to pet and hold some of the animals. There is also a great nature trail, play area and cafe. Definitely recommend a visit when it opens again at the end of march after their break for the winter.

4. Tannaghmore Gardens - Tannaghmore Gardens, based in Lurgan, is the perfect free family day out. Yes FREE! The Georgian farm house is home to a selection of rare bread animals including Irish Moiled and Dexter cattle, Galway and Jacob Sheep, Saddle-back, Tamworth and Gloucester Old Spot pigs, goats and a few others. It also has a fantastic play park and picnic areas to BBQ at. During the summer months there is an ice cream van as well and its so lovely to go to the park, see the animals and then chill out with an ice cream while the boys have a go sitting on the Massey Ferguson Tractor.

5. Belfast Zoo - Last but not least my next favourite place to visit with the kids is of course the zoo. Everyone loves a day at the zoo right? Belfast Zoo is situated on the outskirts of Belfast city centre sitting on a 55 acre site at Cave Hill and home to more than 1,000 animals. As the Zoo is based on Cave Hill it is quite hilly so comfortable shoes are a must! Over all it is a great Zoo and a lovely place to take your little, or not so little rangers!

So there you have it 5 must see attractions for you and your little ones. Have any of you been to any of these places or is there any others that you would recommend visiting? I would love to hear in the comments!

We had such a lovely week last week. The weather was glorious and we were able to get out of the house as a family for a change and spend a lot of time in the garden playing in the sandpit, riding pedal tractors, bouncing on the trampoline and playing with our dog Masie.

Tuesday was St Patricks day so we went into town with my mother, the boys Nanny, and watched the St Patricks Day Parade. Harry loved watching all the floats and even managed to see mickey and mini mouse and get a high five from Donald Duck which completely made his day! At the parade was Irish dancers and other dance groups, bands and loads of different floats with a St Patricks Day theme.

On Wednesday we spend nearly the whole day outside and after lunch we had a lovely visit from my Hubby's cousin and her little girl. It was lovely to have a good catch up with them and was nice to have someone over for Harry to play with as well.

We had another fantastic class at Jo Jingles on Thursday. Harry just loves music and is always dancing so Jo Jingles is perfect for him to burn of a bit of energy and its nice to be able to do something together especially for him. This week is our last week of the class but we are able to sign up for another 9 week term so I think I will enrol him again as he just loves it so much and it will be his last opportunity to go to the class before he heads of to Nursery full time in September.

Over the weekend the weather was, again, fantastic. We literally spent the whole day Sunday out in the garden and it was nice for Harry to spend some 'male bonding' time with his daddy playing football and driving tractors, doing all the things that men do!
As promised I have a baby haul of little bits that I pick up for James this week in NEXT which I think you are all going to love as much as wee do. Greys are so in right now as well as legging/joggers for boys, so you can imagine my excitement when I came across a new line of grey inspired baby clothing, Little Stars, with a cool funky tepee theme!! I fell in love with a pair of tepee leggings from Zara but unfortunately they had stopped making them so I knew straight away when I seen a similar pair in NEXT that James had to have them in his wardrobe. Of course he needed some t-shirts to go with his new leggings so here are a few of the things I picked up to mix and match his outfits with.
What outfit isn't complete without a nice pair of shoes to tie the whole outfit together. These grey lace up shoes are fantastic and very soft and flexible giving baby plenty of room to move their feet. I cant seem to find this shoe on the NEXT web page but they cost only £5.
There are some other lovely items which I never got as they weren't yet in store but here is the link to the full collection.

Its Friiiiiiiiday!! The weekend is here already. That week flew by quickly! At the weekend I like to dress nice and casual during the day as I'm usually running errands or visiting family so its nice to be able to lounge about in something comfortable but still look stylish. I usually team a pair of converse or nice pumps with a pair of jeans and a jumper. Here is some comfortable casual weekend style inspo for all you yummy mummy's out there!

- Ted Baker shopper bag - I love this wee bag! It's so handy for putting all those weekend shopping spree items in and how cute is that little bow!

- Jumper - this little jumper is out of Oasis. I just love the neck detail to it and you can never go wrong with black and white stripes!

- Pink strap watch - I came across this watch on the Debenhams website and just thought the baby pink strap was fab and would look lovely with the pastel detail on jumper.

- O.P.I nail polish - I love the colour of this nail polish and it matches perfectly with the watch strap!

- Shoes - These wee beauties are from River Island and are so handy to slip on and instantly make a plain outfit look chic yet still providing that all important comfort.

- Jeggings - This is my favourite make of jeans! The MOLLY jeggings from River Island are so comfortable and are a fantastic, stretchy, comfortable fit.

So it is week three of weaning James onto solids. I would love to say it has been going great but to be honest it hasn't been! He does not like the food being in his mouth and doesn't let me take his bottle away from him, when giving him half his bottle before hand. I tried giving him his solids first but he just screams the place down until I give him his bottle. I think part of his fussiness with weaning is also down to the fact that he is teething like mad at the moment. He is always trying to take the spoon off me to chew on and sucking his bottle is like a comfort to him.

I have been thinking of trying the baby lead weaning as he is trying to put things up to his mouth and he might like biting into the food more as it might help his gums as well. I have been putting off baby lead weaning as I'm so afraid of him chocking, but I have been chatting to a few mums who are doing BLW with their babies and have had no problems, which has reassured me a little and has given me some confidence to think about putting it to the test.

Carrot batons are the first BWL food that I am thinking of trying with him as they are easy held and don't have a very strong taste so may prove more palatable for him.

I'm hoping his hate for pureed food is down to his teething and that he will start to enjoy new tastes and textures soon but for now we are just taking it one day at a time letting him set the pace.

Some foods that we have tried so far:

apples

carrot

sweet potato

peas

pear

mango

parsnips

creamy porridge

Have any of you dealt with a baby refusing to wean or have any advice on BLW? I would love to hear from you!

With Easter not too far away I thought I would put together some Easter crafts to try over the holiday with your little ones. I really want to do more crafts with Harry and plan to pick up bits and pieces over the next week or two for us to do together. I will let you know in a separate post what I have picked up. Here are some of my favourite Easter crafts that I have came across on pinterest that I would like to try.

Spring is finally here! Not that you would think it with the amount of snow we have been getting!!! I'm looking forward to warmer days, longer evenings, watching the flowers bloom and seeing the newborn lambs running around in the fields.

I have decided to put together a 'spring bucket list' of things to do over the next few months at home and with the kids. We hope to get as many of these ticked off as possible and am looking forward to setting myself a challenge and completing it!

Here are some of the things we would like to accomplish before springs up:

Go swimming

Go to the park

Stay at the caravan

Eat Easter eggs

Roll Ester eggs down hill

Attend Easter service at church

Do some Easter crafts

Go to soft play

Make a fort

Make sensory toys

Play in the sand pit

Go on a family walk

Go to the farm

Spring clean and sort toys

Make bird feeder

Bake buns

Feed ducks

Plant flowers

What things are you planning to do with the kids this spring??

James I cannot believe that you are 6 months old already! Where has the time went? It feels like you were only born two months ago and still a little 9lbs newborn, now you are gradually making new milestones and growing and learning something new every day!

Here is a little overview of how you are at 6 months old xx

Weight
No idea! We haven't had you weighed from your 4 month visit with the healh visitor but you weigh a tonne and you are getting so long as well.

Eating
You are still having 4/5 7oz bottles of hungry baby milk a day and last week we started you on solids. You still done know what to make of the baby food. The facial expressions you pull are hilarious! You are so different to your brother. He would have ate the arm of you if he had the chance but you are happy enough not to rush and take your time.

Sleeping
You are sleeping threw the night, most nights. Although recently you have decided you want to roll over onto your tummy and end up getting stuck and mummy has to come to your rescue. You love to have your little doggie and Ewan the dream sheep to fall asleep every night and also when your napping during the day. I love to sit and watch you sleeping and wonder what you are thinking about. You always look so peaceful...and I'm always a little jealous that I'm not down lying beside you sleeping aswell!!

Nappies
You are in size 4 nappies at the minute! You love to get t off and have a good kick before bath time.
You are in most of your 6-9 month clothes at the moment. Only some of the bigger sized 3-6 month clothes fit you but I am sure it wont be much longer until I'm going to have to pack them away into the attic because their too small. I came across one of your first baby grows the other day when I was sorting out the clothes and I cannot believe how much you have grown in only a few short months.
Mood
You haven't been in the best of moods this past few weeks as you are teething and just wanting to chew on everything! We laugh that you are going to have no fingers left because you are constantly chewing them.

Loves
You love getting down on the floor and rolling at the moment. You are trying your best to get up on all fours to start crawling. I don't know how I will cope when that day comes! You will be all over the place. The jumperoo is your favourite past time. You could bounce about in it all day if we let you and you even managed to fall asleep in it one day!

Dislikes
You dislike weaning and teething and you have gotten to the stage where you don't like to be held, you would much rather be down on the floor rolling about. We even have to resort to putting you into your pram to give you your bottle as you try to turn around and fuss so much!

Milestones

Can roll over

Can sit up on your own for short periods of time

Found your feet and love looking at your hands

Can find your dummy and put it in your mouth

Took first spoon feeds

It's the weekend and what better way to spend it than with some quality time with the kids. Harry loves sensory play so over the weekend and next week I am going to make some sensory games with him and update you with what we made and how we got on in next weeks post.

Here are some ideas of the types of sensory activities we plan to do which you could try out with your kids as well. They are sure to love it.

DIY Rainbow Sensory Box

Love this idea perfect alternative to a sand box and great for developing those senses!

Glitter/Calming Bottles

Harry just loves bottles. He likes to watch the liquid moving up and down the bottle when he moves it and noticed he carries some of the glitter bottles around at playgroup, so I think these will be one of the first things we will make as their so easy to do!

I just absolutely love pictures. They capture so many precious memories for us to look back on. Before James was born I contacted a photographer to book James in for a newborn baby shoot for when he was only a few weeks old so that in years and even months later I can look back and cherish the memories of how small and 'new' he was. I got Harry's photographs done with my Bounty vouchers that I got from the hospital but he was about 6 weeks old when he got them done so he wasn't 'quite' newborn as he was starting to get more head control and try and smile etc.

I have listed below when the best time is to get a newborn shoot and some things you should consider before you go and when you are at the shoot!

Before booking a photographer to shoot your newborn I would advise looking for someone who specialises in newborn photography as they will have a better idea on how to soothe babies and get them into different, safe, positions to be photographed and will most likely be shooting babies everyday so will have a good idea on what works best to achieve the perfect photographs for your new bundle of joy. Ask around friends and family as well to see who done their baby photo shoots and who they would personally recommend and make your decision based on these options.

Most photographers take a note of your due date so they have a base line to work with so they know roughly when you will be booking your session. A few days after your baby is born you should get in contact with your photographer again to pencil in a date.

Photographers recommend that the first two weeks of life is the perfect time to get a newborn shoot done. This is because muscle tone is very weak and babies tend to sleep much deeper at this stage meaning it is easier to put them into different positions without annoying them too much.

You should bring a few bottles of milk with you to your photo shoot if you are bottle feeding, a dummy if you use one, spare nappies, and a change of outfit if you want your baby photographed in a few different things, but I think newborn photographs are much nicer when they are photographed with no clothes on and maybe just a blanket or shawl covering their modesty. Your photographer may be able to supply you with baby clothes, props or accessories but check before hand to make sure.

Photography sessions can last anywhere between 1-3 hours so keep this in mind if you are bringing other children with you so you can schedule your appointment around nap/feeding times. I would also recommend bringing some toys/snacks for older children to keep them occupied while the baby is getting their photographs taken and if your partner is unable to make the photo shoot with you, you could ask a friend or family member to come along with you to keep sibling amused in case you need to help out with the baby's photos.

I love looking back on these photos of James and seeing how much he has grown and developed in only a few months. If you are considering a newborn shoot I would highly recommend as they are only small once and you can't rewind back to them being that size again.

On Sunday I decided to try James on some baby rice again after his 11am bottle. I still haven't got round to cleaning Harry's old high chair (bad mummy) so I just sat the pram up a bit and gave it to him in that. We made the baby rice up with a little bit of his usual milk and gave it a quick heat in the microwave making sure there were no hot spots before giving it too him. I only gave him a small spoonful at first. He was still a little unsure of it but then started to reach out for the spoon and take a bit more. He took 3 or 4 small spoonfuls of the baby rice then started to push it all out again so we left it at that for the day.

On Monday he got baby rice again after his bottle and started to eat it slightly better. He was still screwing his face up and trying to figure out how exactly he was men't to eat it as he is only used to sucking through a bottle to eat and not chew.

Then yesterday (Tuesday) I tried James with some carrot. I just used the Ella's Kitchen carrot food pouch as I knew I would only be using a small amount at first and they can be kept in the fridge for 48 hours and can also be frozen into the ice cube trays that I suggested in my last weaning post. Using the pouches also gave me a good Idea on how thick of a consistency the food should be as well. James preferred the carrot purée better than the baby rice and was still trying to get the hang of trying to chew and it is so cute watching the little faces he makes when trying out these new foods.
I am going to try him on the carrot purée again today and tomorrow I will maybe try him with some more root vegetables like sweet potato or parsnip before introducing the sweeter tastes like fruit.

We were kindly sent a replacement Ewan, from sweet dreamers, after having battery troubles with our last one which would only last a day with high end batteries and then wouldn't work any more.

Where do I start about Ewan?! I think he is just AMAZING and has been such a life saver. We had been using white noise, off youtube videos, from James was only a few weeks old as he suffered from colic and it was the only thing that would help settle him a bit. If you are an iphone user, like myself, you will know how rubbish the battery life is and was constantly having to recharge it. As soon as I came across Ewan I knew he would be a big hit with James and save my phone battery and internet data at the same time!

Ewan is so soft and cuddly, with a white body and a purple head and legs. There is a velcro strap for his tail which can be useful for attaching to the crib or pram, when out and about, so he doesn't fall out.

Each one of Ewan's legs plays a different 'pink noise'. Each sound plays for 20 minutes and is recorded at low base frequency that the baby can predominantly hear in the womb. The four different sounds which he makes are:

Real womb sounds with heart beat

Vacuum cleaner with heart beat

Rain with heart beat

Harp with heart beat

James Favourite noise is the womb sound or the vacuum cleaner.

A pink glow also features on Ewan's tummy, which can be turned on or off, and is meant to resemble being inside the mothers womb and again help soothe and settle your baby.

I just think Ewan is fab and James instantly settles when he is played and within a few minutes is fast asleep. I would highly recommend Ewan to all my friend and family and to any expecting mums. It would also make the perfect baby gift. They are sure to love it as much as we do!

Last night I stumbled across this blog post 'How to be a better mom while being exhausted' and it basically sums up exactly how I feel most Mornings in life. I am not a morning person and never have been, so when wakening up several times to a screaming baby in the middle of the night and then up early to attend to an over active toddler it can be physically and mentally draining.

Just before Christmas I was diagnosed with post natal depression which makes rising early and trying to put on a happy face, while your toddler is tipping a full box of cheerios on the floor and your trying to get a crying baby a bottle, feel like your in the middle of world war 3. There were days where I would stay in my pj's all day and sit on the couch while the TV babysat Harry and I was always trying to make James sleep just so I could sit down and have a break. I knew this wasn't like me and knew their was more to it than just being exhausted. I finally decided things needed to change and confided in my health visitor and told her my concerns and how I was feeling. I was glad I talked to her and she advised I went and seen my GP who prescribed me with anti-depressants. Going to my GP felt like a huge weight was lifted from me and I knew I was a step closer to trying to get my life back to normal and enjoy those special moments with my boys and get my relationship back on track with my hubby. Having Depression is something you have to deal with on a daily basis. Some people get over it quicker than others and some never get over it. Depression feels like a silent illness as people don't think their could be anything wrong with you because you look ok and you probably put on a brave face for the short time that you are in their company. I feel like no one understands when you tell them you have depression which is why only my husband, mother and close friend know I have it and even then I feel they don't full understand. Reading Aprille's blog post has inspired me, even though I am exhausted, to be a better parent even tough some days I know it will be hard. By just making a few adjustments to my day like trying to take a shower first thing in the morning, getting dressed and even just taking the time to eat properly, will hopefully try and start my day off on the right foot.

If you think you may be suffering with post natal depression please get in touch with your GP or health visitor. It will feel like a complete weight off your shoulders that you have taken that first step in talking to someone about how your feeling and if you have depression and want someone to talk to I would love to hear from you as I know one of my biggest struggles is that I feel like I'm going through this alone and have no one to turn to who understands what I'm going through. So please don't hesitate to drop me a comment below or email me @ mumslittleloves@gmail.com.

James has hit the unavoidable teething stage. He has been teething for a while now but this past week or two he has been really unsettled with it. Here are a few things we have been trying and some signs of how to know if your baby is teething or not.

Signs you baby may be teething:

irritable and unsettled

red cheeks

drooling

red and swollen gums

chewing on fingers or fists and rubbing gums

off feeds

not sleeping as well at night or during naps

Teething is, unfortunately, something all babies have to go trough and as much as we hate to see our little ones in pain there are a few things that we can do to help.

Teething gels and powders
Teething gels and powders are great for quick and effective relief from teething pain. You can easily apply the gel direct to the pain source and gently massage it in. I have found the Dentinox teething gel to be great and it is suitable to use from birth and can be applied every 20 minutes. I haven't used the teething powders with James yet but found the Nelsons Teetha ones to be quite effective with Harry.

Teethers
Teething toys are perfect for little ones to hold and chew on. I found the Sophie la Giraffe range to be great and are easily held by babies. Teethers that go into the fridge are great as well, as a cold compress will help soothe hot aching gums.

Amber beads
Amber bead necklaces and anklets are made out of natural Baltic sea Amber. The ambers natural anti-inflammatory and pain reliving properties are released into the skin when warmed through close skin contact. I haven't yet tried the amber necklaces but have heard from friends, that have used them on their babies, that they found them to be great so will maybe give them a go! However I would advise that they are always used under supervision to avoid chocking or strangling.

Infant paracetamol
Giving infant paracetamol or ibuprofen can have a great effect for teething babies but shouldn't be given together unless advised by a doctor. Always check the dosage information on the packet before giving to your baby. Personally I like to try the above methods first before resorting to medicine.

Cuddles
Sometimes a good cuddle and some reassuring comfort can be enough to help settle your teething baby and lets face it who doesn't like a good cuddle when we are not feeling our best!

The weekend is almost here! That flew pretty quickly. Harry is back to playgroup today so I have decided to use my time wisely and sort the boys clothes out and put the ones that don't fit anymore away into the attic. Harry didn't get too many clothes for Christmas or at his birthday in January so over the past few weeks I have been picking him up bits and pieces, mainly from next, and also got James a few 6-9 month clothes as he hadn't a big selection in that age range.

I didn't get taking any pictures of the clothes I got Harry but below I have put together a collage of some of the things out of next that I got for him this month.

There was also matching socks and bibs that I picked up as well.
When his grandparents got him a Thomas the tank engine bed for his second Christmas I thought it would at least last him two or three years surly! Oh how I was wrong as we only seemed to manage 13 months out of it! Harry loves to lye across the bed and we think that is why he kept wakening up in the middle of the night as he would try to lye across and wake himself up by hitting his head on the sides etc. So a couple of weekends ago I took a notion that it was time to get rid of Thomas and get a new 'big boy' bed. That meant that there was only one place to go.. IKEA! Oh how I love IKEA. You can literally get everything you need there at amazing prices. It's fantastic. Here are some of the things we picked up on our trip! We decided to go for a monochrome look with a splash of red as he already had some red bits and pieces in his room and it works perfectly!

Kallax shelves - these are fantastic for any room in your house but we got this for Harry's room to store some of his books and toys that he uses regularly so they are all in the one place and easily accessible. In the bottom four squares we have used the red and black DORAN boxes pictured in no: 7 which are great for holding toys and bits of lego.

Gurli cushion - Harry already has two red gingham style cushions in his room so I picked up this plain red one just as an extra.

Tuvbaracka duvet - when I saw this duvet I knew it would work great with the rest of the room and the fact that it was reversible was an extra bonous.

Vargyllen cushion - as you can tell I love cushions! I thought this would look nice as it had black and white stripes to match the duvet and it was a nice size as well.

Navviva cushion - I just loved the pattern on this cushion and thought it would mix things up a bit bringing a different black and white pattern into the mix.

Kura reversible bed - this bed is just great. I was a bit sceptical at first about getting Harry a bunk bed as I wasn't sure if he would be big enough to get up and down the steps on his own and was afraid of how he was going to manage getting out of bed in the dark if he woke up in the middle of the night. However when I saw the bed in the store it actually wasn't all that high and I thought he would be able to manage it ok and if he couldn't the great thing was that I could quickly and easily turn the bed upside down and use it as a normal bed until he was ready for it to be a bunk bed again.

Doran red and black boxes - these boxes are so handy and at £2.50 each you can't go wrong. Like I said above I use these boxes along with the Kallax shelves and they fit great and are nice and deep to fit all those toys in and keep them out of the way.

Samla box - again these boxes are nice and deep to store all those toys away. I got two of them, one for Harry and one for James, so they are able to have their own individual toys in and makes it easier for me to sort out whose toys go where when tidying them away at the end of the day.

We picked up a few extra bits like plain black picture frames and black and red hooks that are in the shape of a dogs hind legs and his tail is where you hang stuff from which I though were rather cool! Once the hubby finishes painting Harry's room I will do a post on the finished look!

So James is almost at the stage to start weaning. Where is my little baby disappearing to! He is almost 6 months old which, for me, seems late as Harry weaned at 4 months, even though I know it is recommended to wait until 6 months to start. Harry was always a great feeder and drained all his bottles where James tends to be more fussy. I tried James with some baby rice a few weeks back but he wasn't interested in it and I just felt like he wasn't ready just yet and didn't want to push him so decided to wait an few more weeks. Below I have listed a few things to consider and some things that you may need to buy, if you don't already have them, before you start weaning.

Some signs that your baby is ready to move onto weaning:

they are 6 months old

they are able to hold and control their head

taking an interest in your food

milk no longer satisfies your baby and is wakening up again during the night

tries to put things in their mouth

makes chewing motions

chews fingers and fists

high chair - when choosing a high chair I would recommend one that is easily wiped clean as there are sure to be some messes to clean up in those first few months especially if you are baby lead weaning. One that reclines and can move up and down are great to grow with your child right into those toddler years. You may need to get a padded insert to support younger babies or a car seat/baby seat can be used instead.

small bowls - small feeding bowls are perfect for weaning as your baby will only be talking one or two teaspoonfuls at first. They will also come in handy for snack bowls when they become a toddler.

ice cube trays - great for freezing small portions of puréed food. The food can be frozen in the trays and then transferred into a sterile freezer bag and labelled with the date. That way you can take one or two cubes out at a time to defrost or mix and match with different cubes of food.

bibs - bibs are essential for keeping your little angels clean during the weaning stages. Plastic wipe clean bibs are fantastic as well as those with a pouch at the bottom to catch any food that may miss their mouths. However younger babies may prefer a softer bib to start off with.

hand blender - great for blending small amounts of baby food as again you wont be puréeing awful large amounts at first. It is essential especially if you do not have a food processor and a lot cheaper.

plastic feeding spoons -when buying feeding spoons soft plastic ones are best as metal ones may hurt your babies gums and can become very hot.

lidded cups - from six months it is recommended that milk and other drinks should be offered in a lidded cup. I found that the hard tip ones, like the tommee tippee one pictured, seem to work best compared to soft tip ones.

Some things that may be useful:

Steamer

Food processor

Flask

Mess mat

Masher

Mouli (food grinder)

I hope you have found this post helpful for any of you that are thinking about starting weaning or wondering what you may need before you start. We will be posting our weaning journey every Wednesday so make sure to keep tuned! Please feel free to leave a comment if I can be of any more help or advice!
